2020 Eve & Michel Rey Macon Vergisson Sélection La Roche

Eve and Michel Rey run this small domaine together in the beautifully situated village of Vergisson between the Roche de Vergisson and the Roche de Solutré. They do all the work in the cellar and vineyard themselves, so they know every vine. As a winemaker, Michel is extremely eager to learn and Eve is a huge perfectionist. This is probably why the wines of this relatively young winery have made great progress in recent years. No insecticides or pesticides are used, the soil is cultivated all year round with respect for nature and the grapes are picked by hand with the grapes transported in small boxes. What a delicious and young drinkable wine for this money!

Eve and Michel Rey care for their vines as naturally as possible, and because they have so few vineyards, they can tend all their vines by hand. They use only biological treatments, if any treatments are needed at all, and plow the soil instead of using herbicides.

Grapes are crushed as a whole bunch in a soft pneumatic press and fermented on native yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Wines are aged for a minimum of 10 months in mainly used French oak barrels. Very little sulfur is added at each stage; and wines are bottled unfiltered.

The Rey Macon Vergisson Sélection has a light straw yellow color with ripe yellow fruit in the nose and clear notes of butter and vanilla, partly due to the refined use of wood. In the mouth a round mouthfeel with a nice minerality and fresh acidity. The Macon Vergisson Sélection is a full-bodied but elegant white organic Burgundy with a beautiful minerality and, not unimportantly, a fantastic price for a wine of this level.
