Emilio Moro is seen as the example of the winemaker in the Duero's (benchmark producer). Malleolus comes from the Latin word Majuelo meaning 'little vineyard. The tempranillo grapes come from sticks ranging between 25-75 years old. The Malleolus is only made in the good years.
The weather in 2020 in Ribera del Duero was characterized by a slight increase in the average temperature which, together with the abundant rainfall in spring, allowed the vines to develop well. Just before the harvest, there was also some rainfall, which resulted in high quality grapes with good aromatic expression and intensity, but with a somewhat lower yield.
The Emilio Moro Malleolus is a variety Tinto Fino 100% (the Emilio Moro clone of the Tempranillo) and has macerated for 18 days with its own skins. After malolactic fermentation in stainless steel vats, it is aged in French oak barrels. In the glass, the wine has a very deep, intense cherry red color. This Malleolus presents an intense concentration of fresh red fruit - a result of the old vineyard's low yield. It has class, elegance, ripe aroma, good intensity and great personality. The balance between ripeness and freshness is excellent, and the months of aging in the 500 liter barrels have given the Malleolus a very nice complexity. It is powerful and structured and on the palate with good balance and a long, persistent passage. The Malleolus has a very showy, seductive nose of smoked bacon, roasted coffee, grains, violets, cherries and raspberries with lots of spice and very well integrated oak. The taste is medium to full-bodied with beautifully refined tannins. Beautiful for now but will certainly improve over the years and this wine has been seen as a benchmark Ribera del Duero wine for years.
This beautiful Ribera del Duero wine belongs to the exclusive import of Grand Cru wines and this is a scarce double magnum version of 3 liters (Jeroboam).
