Description
The wines of Egon Müller are a household name worldwide. The legendary reputation of this winery is mainly based on its noble sweet wines. These have an unprecedented aging potential and surpass many red wines. Legendary wines with world fame are those from: 1997 and 1999. The wines of Egon Müller-Scharzhof are so popular that they fetch record prices at the wine auction in Trier every year and the ratings of Parker and Suckling are often very close to the maximum 100 points border.
The total vineyard property comprises 8 hectares, of which 7 hectares are owned in Scharzhof. The famous vineyard, Wiltinger Braune Kupp is wholly owned by Egon Müller. The resulting wines bear the name `Le Gallais.`
There has been a changing of the guard since 2000. Stefan Fabian took over as cellar master from Horst Frank. Winemaking at Scharzhof is very traditional and minimalistic, ie 100% quality is created in the vineyard. Minimal interventions are therefore made in the cellar, so that the terroir can be fully expressed. The philosophy of Egon Müller is still a resounding truth: quality arises in the vineyard and through which the finest wines are created.
The Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Kabinett 2020 is shimmering and pale in the glass with a light lime green color. On the nose, the Scharzhofberger Kabinett is crystal clear and precise with a pure, fresh and very refined and complex nose. Lush yet precise and hugely piquant and salty on the palate, it has crunchy notes of white (stone) fruit, mineral notes coming from the iron rich gray slate bottoms that eat up the residual sugar easily, so that the taste is just exciting and salty. This is a frisky, delicious, salty and spicy Riesling of remarkable precision, finesse and elegance, with the tension of a picture book for Kabinett. The finish is very stimulating and incomparable. Drinking window until 2060+
