Les Pichons is the only vineyard on the estate planted with blue grapes. Les Pichons is practically a monopole, because it is almost entirely owned by the Prieurs. The "Les Pichons" from Domaine Prieur & Fils is Prieur's most beautiful red Sancerre and is produced in a very small edition and is limited available. Les Pichons is located at the bottom of the Monts Damné hill and the top layer of the soil contains eroded marl from that vineyard. The lower layer is rich in lime and rather infertile, which ensures low yields and a lot of concentration in the grapes. The Pinot Noir grapes are harvested manually. After fermentation, the wine matures for 14 months in oak barrels and is then bottled unfiltered. Clear with this Pinot Noir is the nose of red fruit with complex aromas of spices and refined toast. After two years of bottle aging, the wine is ready to drink and the tannins are silky smooth. On the palate, Les Pichons by Domaine Prieur is soft and delicately supported by silky soft tannins. The aftertaste is fresh, fruity and slightly spicy.
