Marc Colin is the most award-winning winegrower from St Aubin. A white 1er cru from St.Aubin is therefore in many cases a better buy than a considerably more expensive white wine from one of the neighboring villages. The proximity to Chassagne Montrachet gives this wine a creamy, elegant character. On the palate aromas of citrus fruit and a nice minerality. Can easily age 10 years.
Origin
St Aubin AC 1er Cru "Les Combes"
grape variety
100% Chardonnay
Age of the vines
The vineyards were planted in 1985.
Soil type
The vines are planted on a subsoil of limestone and clay.
Harvest
The entire harvest is done manually and is selected very strictly.
Vinification
The grape bunches are pneumatically pressed. Vinification and aging for 10 months in wooden barrels. Clarification and filtering before bottling.
Marc Colin comes from a wine family in Burgundy with a solid reputation. Together with his two sons, he manages a domain of 20 ha located in the village of Saint-Aubin in the Côte de Beaune. He owns only top appellations: Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Premier Cru vineyards in Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin and Pernand-Vergelesses. This is very exceptional. This domaine has traditionally been known for its quality, yet Colin sees an opportunity to improve it. He is therefore receiving increasingly favorable reviews in the international press. Colin's wines excel in purity and combine strength with elegance. Perhaps a little shy in their youth, but with huge storage potential.
Traditionally minded, he vinifies his wines with a curious intuition for nature. Although he is open to innovation, he sticks to a traditional style and, for example, strives for optimal freshness in his white wines and avoids the wood-dominated Chardonnay type. He is the most awarded winegrower from Gamay St-Aubin and owner of Restaurant Le Chassagne which has 1 Michelin star
Gamay is located in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, also called the Côte des Blancs, because of the famous white wines produced here. In this region, Gamay-Saint-Aubin is one of the lesser known villages, quite wrongly, because the village is hidden between the two world famous villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. When the vineyards are so close to the "mecca" of white wine, there is little to argue with in terms of quality. A white 1er cru from St.Aubin is therefore in many cases a better buy than a considerably more expensive white wine from one of the neighboring villages.
