Jacques and Sylvie Guinaudeau manage the Grand Village vineyards together with the team that is also responsible for the vineyards at Château Lafleur (Pomerol). Their son Baptiste and his wife Julie are now also contributing to the realization of Grand Village's goal: slowly transforming an old factory into a top wine estate. The team brings the knowledge and skills of one of the best châteaux in Pomerol. It's no surprise, then, that Grand Village's wines are spectacular.
After the manual picking with strict selection, the vinification takes place in the traditional way. First, the grapes undergo a short soaking time, followed by the traditional alcoholic fermentation of 3 weeks in oak casks. The grapes are then pressed and the young wine is transferred to mostly new oak barriques for malolactic fermentation and aging for a period of 10 months, after which the wine is bottled unfiltered.
The Grand Village Bordeaux Superieur is a blend of Merlot & Cabernet Franc. The wine has a deep ruby red color. In the nose we smell notes of black currants and plums, a hint of roasted red pepper, juniper and bay leaf. In the taste palette ripe small red black fruit and dried herbs that are accompanied in the aftertaste by clearly present but ripe tannins. Very nice elegant pure blackberry fruit with fine acidity on the final. Guinaudeau is advised in the vinification of Lafleur and Grand Village by the former cellar master of Petrus, Jean Claude Berrouet. Winemaking is also the responsibility of the Château Lafleur team. Keep an eye on these wines - this has an unprecedented good price / quality ratio and let's hope they don't lag behind Lafleur in terms of price. Top rating for a wine from this price range from Parker and Suckling, but in the end this also comes from a beautiful 2019. Parker writes: "......Is there a better value in contemporary Bordeaux than Grand Village?"
