Château de Beaucastel is set in a magical setting dotted with vineyards, ancient olive trees and truffle oaks. Beaucastel, that is the most famous wine of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Here you will find nature in its purest form and its strength comes to rest. The typical rolled boulders are the secret of its vineyards in which gnarled vines grow in the traditional 'gobelet' shape. On this ancient soil we find the 13 grape varieties that are allowed in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. All these 13 grape varieties form the basis of the mythical blends of Château de Beaucastel, where they are grown biodynamically. With this, they are one of the last to use the richness and complexity that this blend offers.
The history of Beaucastel starts in the early 17th century. The Perrins appeared in the early 20th century. Coudoulet wines can rise to unprecedented heights in great years and are often preferred over the much more expensive Beaucastels. Certainly at an earlier stage in anticipation of the development of the Beaucastel wines, which usually take extensive and convincing revenge at a later age. Here we get to the heart of the matter. The material with the greatest long-term potential and the most finesse is assigned to Beaucastel. We can experience with Coudoulet that the pleasure at an early stage is irresistibly expressed in the young wine.
The white Coudoulet is a blend Marsanne 30%, Viognier 30%, Bourboulenc 30%, Clairette 10%. The grapes are hand picked and lightly bruised and after the fermentation the wines are kept for 8 months in wooden barrels and stainless steel tanks before the wine is blended. In the glass, the white Coudoulet from Chateau Beaucastel is pale yellow. In the nose the wine is floral with ripe white fruit, apricots, white peach, fennel. In the mouth it has a very pleasant freshness, a nice bitterness, minerality and good dryness. The open perfume vibrates with floral aromas such as honeysuckle and orange blossom surrounding a core of white peach. A touch of lime gives this wine an unparalleled length.
