Borgogno is one of the very first and probably the oldest wineries in Piedmont. The Italian winery strongly believes in the classical and traditional philosophy whatever its strength; For years, the observance of these traditions has been passed on to the next generations. Borgogno owns 13 hectares of vineyards, 9 of which are planted with the Nebbiolo grape. The wines are all vinified in the traditional way to produce unique and structured wines. The wines are produced sustainably.
This 100% Nebbiolo from Borgogno is a very affordable alternative to the often extremely expensive Barolo's. In the glass the wine is garnet red, with a brick red rim as befits a good Nebbiolo. In the nose we smell roses, autumn notes, licorice and tobacco. In the mouth, this wine is already velvety soft, with tannins present but already beautifully round and well integrated. The wine is already surprisingly good to drink, but will be able to improve even further with time. We recommend decanting this beautiful Nebbiolo or opening the bottle at least an hour in advance. This Nebbiolo is an excellent accompaniment to minestrone soup, pastas with mushrooms and shallots and sweet potato.
Rating De Grote Hamersma: 9+
"Dark plums, black cherries, shadow blackberries, bitters and acids. Compact but never tight. BabyBarolo. But a nine-pound one."
