Cont'Ugo is produced entirely with Merlot. The vineyards are located at an altitude that varies between 45 and 60 meters above sea level on clay-loam soils of alluvial origin that give the wine deep complex notes while retaining the aroma and freshness typical of Merlot berries. After the grapes were harvested by hand and carefully selected on sorting tables, the berries were transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel vats where alcoholic fermentation and maceration with skins took place over a period of approximately 20 days. Fermentation temperatures at this high-end winery are managed according to the ripeness of the grapes: lower temperatures were used to preserve and enhance aromatic freshness, while higher temperatures, up to 30°C, stimulate the extraction of phenolic compounds and structure . The different batches were divided according to their individual characteristics and then transferred to oak barriques, a third of which were new. The malolactic fermentation was completed towards the end of the year. The best batches were blended by the winemaker to give them the right profile and the blend was transferred to barriques for further maturation / aging for 12 months after which it was bottled. The Cont'Ugo was aged in the bottle for a further 6 months in the cellars of the winery before becoming available.

The Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Rosso Cont'Ugo is a pure expression of Merlot from the Marchesi Antinori estate in Bolgheri on the Tuscan coast. This vintage is fragrant and bright with aromas ranging from powerful berries and raspberries to blue flowers and dried mint. The aromas are lofty and bright, and on the palate the wine delivers a graceful, medium-bodied approach. The Cont'Ugo is a wine of great depth and complexity while retaining the aroma and richness of fruit typical of Merlot.

The Guado al Tasso estate is located in the small but prestigious Bolgheri appellation on the coast of Tuscany's Upper Maremma, about 100 kilometers southwest of the city of Florence. The region can boast a worldwide reputation as a reference point for international high-end wines such as Sassicaia, Ornellaia and of course Guado al Tasso. The vineyards of Guado al Tasso are mainly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Vermentino grapes; the latter cultivated with both white and red varieties. They enjoy a mild climate thanks to the close presence of the Mediterranean Sea, the constant breeze softens the summer heat and the rigors of winter cleans the air and provides high levels of sunlight and radiation.

Vineyard for 2020 Antinori Tenuta Guado al Tasso Cont'Ugo Bolgheri

The name Antinori is a household name in the wine world. Wherever you go in a little restaurant in the world, the wines of Antinori show off on the menu. And that is not easy! 600 years of experience precede, as many as 26 generations of wine know-how. Investments have been made carefully in domains and vineyards. And guaranteed in the best locations.

Marquis Piero Antinori is in charge and is assisted by his three daughters: Albiera, Allegra and Alessia. Funny those three A's. We are not going to bother you with all the awards that have been received over the years, because then this price list can no longer go through the letterbox. There are two red wines that are available on allocation and that one would like to get a few bottles from all over the world and that are Tignanello and Solaia and we also have these in our range at Grandcruwijnen.

In 1180, Ugo and Antinori di Rinuccino were officially named as owners of Castello di Combiate; a century later, the family who had moved to Florence were included in the register of the silk trade cooperative. In 1385, Giovanni di Piero, an indirect descendant, entered the wine guild as an apprentice. Since then, the wine-growing tradition of the Antinori family has been continuous. With the establishment of the Marchesi Antinori winery, the peak was reached in 1895 and already in 1898 the winery was built in San Casciano Val di Pesa, which is still the center of the widely branched group of properties in all major cultivation areas of Tuscany, Umbria. , Piemonte (since the early 90s through the purchase of the wine cellar Prunotto), Apulia and even California. The traditional house participating in the modern Tuscan wine-growing revolution owes much of its prestige to its former chief vinologist Giacomo Tachis, who produced exceptional wines such as Sassicaia, Tignanello (especially sangiovese), Solaia (especially cabernet) and many others. the other was responsible. Vinologist Renzo Cotarella also created one of the best chardonnays in Italy in the Umbrian Castello della Sala.
