2021 Anselmo Mendes Contacto Alvarinho

The philosophy of Anselmo Mendes is that every plot, every place gives the Alvarinho its own, different character. He shows this nicely with this wine. It is made from alvarinho grapes from Monção e Melgaço only, but from lower vineyards, closer to the River Minho, where the subsoil is deep, with a high content of boulders. This results in a wine with more structure and a lot of complexity, which also emphasizes the mineral, somewhat vegetable-like character and the special bitterness of the alvarinho. This character is accentuated by a short skin contact during fermentation, followed by a fermentation at a low and later slightly higher temperature, varying between 14 C and 22 ºC. It gains depth by aging on fine lie for at least four months.

In the nose, the Alvarinho has a lush and broad scent, nicely ripe and powerful, yellow plums and ripe pear, very complex, beautiful tropical fruit. In the mouth, the Contacto has a powerful taste, structure and depth, remains fresh, with apple, length and the typical bitterness of the alvarinho in the aftertaste.

Serve at Delicious with a chicken salad, plaice fillet with fresh broad beans, pork tenderloin with cream sauce.
