2022 Anselmo Mendes Contacto Alvarinho

The philosophy of Anselmo Mendes is that every plot, every place gives the Alvarinho its own, different character. He demonstrates this nicely with this wine. It is made from alvarinho grapes from only Monção e Melgaço, but from lower vineyards, closer to the River Minho, where the subsoil is deep, with a high content of boulders. This produces a wine with more structure and a lot of complexity, which also puts the mineral, somewhat vegetable-like character and the special bitter of the alvarinho more in the foreground. This character is accentuated by a short skin contact during fermentation, followed by a fermentation at a low, and later a bit higher temperature, varying between 14 ºC and 22 ºC. It gets depth through a maturation on the fine lie of at least four months.

In the nose, the Alvarinho has a lush and broad scent, beautifully ripe and powerful, yellow plums and ripe pear, very complex, beautiful tropical fruit. In the mouth, the Contacto has a powerful taste, structure and depth, remains fresh, with apple, length and the typical bitterness of the alvarinho in the aftertaste.

Serve at Delicious with a chicken salad, plaice fillet with fresh broad beans, pork tenderloin with cream sauce.
