The Aalto is hot and for good reason. Great wine for lovers of a full, firm, complex wine. The winter was warm and there was rain at the end of this season. Spring was also rainy. The opening of the buds took place under humid and mild temperature conditions and there was only a little frost in the spring. June and July were warm and rainy, but not overly so. August brought a heat wave, followed by a few temperate days and light showers in September that favored the harvest of perfectly healthy and ripe grapes. All in all, 2019 was almost ideal in terms of conditions for a top wine.
The Aalto has a bright color with good acidity. Aalto has a voluminous taste and is medium to full bodied. The nose has intense aromas of fruit with light wood in the background. The wine is full and complex but without compromising freshness. It has the typical flavors of a (good) Tempranillo, such as licorice and black fruit and roasted coffee, spices and tobacco that remain nicely balanced through impeccable wood aging.
The Aalto is made from 100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) from very old vines aged between 40 and 80 years. The Aalto is fermented in tapered stainless steel tanks, after which the wine remains in oak barrels for 18 months, of which 50% is new French oak and 50% is French and American oak for one to three years.
