The first vintage of the Velenosi Solestà was 2016. The vineyards for the Velenosi Solestà are located in the Marches (Marche) and specifically in the districts of Offida, Ascoli Piceno and Castel di Lama and these are the Grandcru areas in the Marches. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 200-300 m above sea level on a soil of clay and limestone. A high planting density of 5000 plants per hectare is chosen, with grass and flowers growing between the rows. All this means that there is a lot of competition, which means that the grapes have to root deeper and give a lower (but qualitatively better) yield (but around 1.5 Kg per vine). The other plant growth also ensures more bio-diversity, which means that cultivation can be done sustainably.
The Solestà is a blend of Montepulciano 70% and Sangiovese 30%. After decanting, the grapes are transported to 100 hl stainless steel fermentation tanks. This facilitates the delicate breakage and movement of the must during fermentation to ensure that contact between must and skin is most effective and this allows for much better extraction of the phenols. The maceration time is long (approx. four weeks) in order to obtain the best result. The wine is given plenty of time and at the end of fermentation the wine is put in new oak barriques where the Solestà matures for 12-16 months.
In the glass, the Solestà has a ruby red color with light purple shades on the edge of the glass. The wine opens intensely and complex and with some oxygen several layers emerge with clear scents of red fruit and after some rolling the fruity scents of red currant, cherry and cherry as well as nuances of tobacco, licorice, cinnamon and nutmeg emerge. The wine has a very good structure, complex and harmonious and the balance between fruit, alcohol and acidity is excellent. A very popular wine where everything is just right. 91/100 Suckling for the 2019 vintage
Angela and Ercole Velenosi had been active in viticulture for years. In 1984 they made their dream come true: they bought these beautifully situated plots in the Marche and produce both white and red wines, marked by their authenticity and character. The Rosso Piceno is one of the most produced wines in the Marche. This blend of Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes is good and affordable, which is why it is so popular. In the Marche region, northern and southern Italy come together and that also applies to this Brecciarolo from Velenosi.
Velenosi winery was founded in 1984 by two entrepreneurs Angela and Ercole Velenosi. Despite the relatively short period that they have been active in wine growing, their boundless passion for the profession has taught them quickly. They are proud, and rightly so, of their state-of-the-art wine company in the province of Marche (Marche) near Ascoli Piceno. The beautiful wines come from about 100 hectares that the domain is large.
Ercole and Angela always combined artisan tradition with advanced technology and interpret the winemaking process in a creative way. The company grew continuously, and in 2005 Paolo Garbini joined the board. Today Velenosi spreads the scents and colors of the Piceno territory all over the world with its unique wines.
Quality is very important to Angela and Ercole. This starts in the vineyards where Verdicchio, Pecorino, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and Rosso Piceno Superiore are cultivated. Each wine is made according to a fixed and proven process, starting on the first day that the grapes reach the wine cellar. In its short existence, Velenosi has already enjoyed a wide appreciation of wine journalists and has won various awards from Robert Parker, Wine Spectator and Gambero Rosso ('Tre Bicchieri'), among others.
