After the sale of the iconic Numathia - Termes winery to the LVMH group , the Eguren brothers return to the Toro Eguren with a new winery , Teso La Monja . The Romanico is a new wine from Teso Monja which is known from the Almirez, the Victorino, the Alabaster and of course the iconic Teso La Monja.
The entry-level red is the 2019 Románico, produced with Tinta de Toro (aka Tempranillo) from younger vines (10 to 25 or 30 years old, some grafted) in the villages of Valdefinjas and Toro. It fermented in the traditional way with native yeasts selected from their own vineyards and aged in used French oak barrels for an average of six to eight months.
If you are looking for a wine with a more than excellent price/quality ratio, we can highly recommend it. This red wine has a dark opaque purple color with aromas of spices and coffee and is a fresh fragrant friendly wine but without detracting from the powerful character that is typical of the area and is simply a fantastic glass of wine. It is clean and balanced with neatly integrated oak. Robert Parker speaks in his review about "it represents superb value and it tastes like a wine that costs $50"
