Overview and Background

Rémi Jobard is a renowned winemaker in Burgundy, known for his excellent white wines. He is part of a family with a long tradition of wine growing in Meursault. Rémi Jobard is known for its organic viticultural practices and its focus on producing wines that reflect the terroir and vintage.

Vineyard and Terroir

  • Vineyard : Le Poruzot-Dessus is a Premier Cru vineyard in Meursault, one of the most prestigious appellations in Burgundy for white wine.
  • Terroir : The vineyard is located on the eastern slopes of Meursault and has clay and limestone soils. This soil, combined with optimal sun exposure, produces wines with depth, complexity and excellent minerality.

Winemaking

  • Grape variety : 100% Chardonnay, the noble grape of Burgundy known for its ability to express the terroir.
  • Winemaking : Rémi Jobard uses traditional methods combined with modern techniques. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels, some of which are new, to add complexity and structure to the wine.
  • AGEING : The wine is aged on its lees (sur lie) in oak barrels for 12 to 18 months, which contributes to its creaminess and depth of flavour.

Tasting notes

  • Color : Bright golden yellow.
  • Aromas : The nose offers a complex mix of citrus fruits, ripe apples, pears, white flowers and subtle notes of toasted bread and vanilla due to the oak aging.
  • Taste : On the palate the wine is rich and full-bodied, with flavors of ripe white fruit, lemon and a hint of honey, supported by a lively acidity and mineral core.
  • Finish : The finish is long and refined, with lingering notes of minerality and a hint of buttery complexity.

Remi Jobard is the dynamic son of Charles Jobard, who has dedicated years to the construction of this small winery of 9 hectares, but with large plots in Meursault. Remi immediately showed his talent with modernly made wines that are mainly pure and mineral, original and not over-concentrated. The domaine has already abolished the use of herbicides and chemicals since 1988 and the wines are fully certified organic, so that the terroirs with their beautiful limestone hills can be seen to their fullest.

The harvest is carried out by the same team every year, the pickers are experienced and carry out an initial sorting directly in the vineyard. In addition to organic viticulture, as little intervention as possible is made in the vinification, the aging in Stockinger demi-muids, 650 liters of Austrian oak barrels, brings very little wood aromas, but a beautiful structure. These Burgundies often receive high reviews from the press and are a fine reference of the Meursault appellation, with chiseled and pure wines. The premier crus Poruzot and Genevrières, together with the Charmes and Perrières, are among the most perfect terroirs that Meursault has to offer.
