2017 Pinord Lluna Plena Xarel-lo Vinyes Velles BIO

Pinord is one of the most respected companies in the Penedès region thanks to a tradition that goes back more than 150 years. They have a huge range, but we carry the Cava +&+ series and the Lluna Plena series. These are their high end wines.

Now we know that the hills of Penedès produce fantastic wines, especially white grapes such as Xarel-lo and Chardonnay. The freshness of the winds coming from the Mediterranean Sea and the protection of the mountain ridge creates a special microclimate. The mineral and calcareous soils give the wines (sparkling and still) the typical minerality

The grapes come from the vineyard in Muntanyans, plot 10 to be precise, where they work organically, biodynamically and care for the environment. They pick by hand so that as many grapes as possible reach the winery as whole berries. The grapes are gently pressed and only the free-run juice is used to make the wine. The wine is first fermented in barrel and then kept in barrel for 12-14 months. During this time, they perform several battonages. Aging on its fine lees, left over from the fermentation process, gives the wine more complexity and creaminess. To maintain the high quality of this wine, they minimize the clarification and filtering processes as much as possible. They want to preserve the unique identity of this wine. Once bottled, they let the Lluna plena rest and age in the bottle for a minimum of 6 months before releasing the wine.

The Lluna Plena Xarel-lo Vinyes Velles is a great organic (DEMTETER Certified) wine of a very high level. It has been aged in oak to round it out and yet it retains its youth, emphasizes its fruit and gives a complex and elegant touch on the palate. This wine perfectly balances the fruit and floral aromas characteristic of the grape variety, as well as notes of well-integrated oak. In the mouth especially elegance and a true expression of the grape variety. Only 2,300 bottles were made and all bottles are numbered. The great acidity makes this Lluna Plena Xarel-lo Vinyes Velles a wine that can age beautifully.
