Le Crocine is a domain in the wine region of Bolgheri and was founded by Niccolò Marzichi Lenzi. The Lenzi family is a prominent family from Florence and Niccolo's mother is Ilaria Antinori , sister of Piero and Lodovico Antinori. His wife Joy is responsible for the Le Crocine domain. So these top Bolgheri wines also have Antinori roots.

The Le Crocine 57022 is named after the postcode of where Le Crocine is located in Bolgheri. This Supertuscan is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon - 20% Merlot. Produced from grapes from exceptional terroirs coming from vineyards with a south-west orientation, perpendicular to the sea, allowing better ventilation during the warmer period of the year. The 57022 has freshness, finesse and an Italian temperament that is so characteristic of the top wines of Bolgheri.

After manual picking, a second selection takes place on the sorting tables and only the finest fruit is gravity-fed into small stainless steel barrels. The grapes undergo a short cold soak before naturally starting fermentation, followed by malolactic fermentation. Once both fermentations are complete, the Le Crocine 57022 is aged for approximately 18 months in second and third year French oak barriques to preserve elegance and not overpower the wood. The barrels are regularly rolled around the lees that make the wines rich (battonage). This intensive (and heavy) process ensures good extraction and thus avoids pumping (= too much oxygen with risk of too much oxidation). The Le Crocine 57022 is an exceptional wine with body, depth and length. It distinguishes itself from the rest in its colour, smell, complexity and richness of taste. A beautiful ruby red color with fresh red and dark fruit in the nose (berry, cherry, blackberry with a little laurel, vanilla and leather. In the mouth the wine surprises and has a great freshness and this is certainly the trademark of Le Crocine. decant from his younger years because the wine still has firm tannins and green tones, but everything is right in the mouth.

FACT: The sister-in-law of Nicolo Marzichi Lenzi is the famous actress Eva Green. This bond girl is also the daughter of Marlène Jobert, a French actress who often appeared on the white screen between 1960 and 1980. The top model of Le Crocine de Cuvee Eva is named after Eva Green.

ABOUT LE CROCINE

Bolgheri is located in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci in the Maremma, on the coast of Tuscany. From the 1970s onwards, Bolgheri was qualitatively put on the map by the production of the famous Super Tuscans such as Sassicaia, Tignanello and Ornellaia. Niccolò grew up on a farm in the middle of Tuscany and wine is part of his DNA. The memories of the walks with his father through the vineyards and the sound of the fermenting Sangiovese inspired him to make his own wine. After many years of traveling, he returned to his roots to make his dream come true, together with his wife Joy Green. The intense, terroir-driven wines of Le Cro-cine have achieved cult status in a short time. Le Crocine produces 4 impressive red cuvées, all with a unique personality and based on the classic large Bordeaux grapes: cabernet (franc and/or sauvignon) and sometimes a little merlot - Supertuscans all the way, but in the end with the roots of the Antinori family. isn't that strange either.
