Armenia, a country in the South Caucasus, is the oldest Christian country in the world. Wine has been made here for 6,000 years. Despite this impressive history and dozens of ancient, indigenous grape varieties, Armenia is an almost forgotten wine country.
Karas is without doubt the most prominent winery from Armenia and that is certainly because it has the most famous wine consultant and winemaker Michel Rolland make the wine. The winery is located in the Ararat Valley where the soil is of volcanic origin. It has slightly eroded clay formed by basalt, with high levels of carbonate and limestone, volcanic tuff and alluvial rocks. The valley has a continental highland climate with hot summers and cold dry winters. Karas also has on his labels: 6,200 years Crafting Wine and there are very few houses that can put this on their label
For the Karas A Tale of 2 Mountains, the emphasis is of course on the fruit, but there is also a strong influence of the minerality from the volcanic soil of the Ararat Valley. After some couples therapy from flying winemaker Michel Rolland, the local grape Kangun and Chenin Blanc form a happy marriage here. Surprising and fresh glass. The wine has a straw yellow color in the glass. The fragrance is very special, refreshing with hints of apple, honey, melon and subtle notes of peach. Intense in the mouth with balanced acidity and exotic fruit, citrus in the aftertaste. The Kangun along with the minerality just gives it a nice kick at the end. Excellent as an aperitif wine, but can also go well with a homemade Waldorf salad.

Sustainability, family, tradition and expertise come together at Karas Wines, an Armenian winery under the eternal gaze of Mount Ararat. The mission is to produce world-class vintages from our own vineyards in Armavir, Armenia.
Karas, the name of the winery, means "amphora" in Armenian, a sacred clay wine vessel that has been used here for 6,000 years. That, combined with Armenia's ancient oenological culture, inspires Karas to chart the future of wine's birthplace while also reclaiming the mantle as a producer of the world's most coveted wines.
