2019 Gramona Mas Escorpi Chardonnay

Bodegas Gramona is a winery full of tradition and prestige in the DO Penedes. The Bodega was founded in 1921. All Gramona wines are very renowned and of an exceptional class and with a very good price/quality ratio. That is why we also carry their range.

The Mas Escorpi is the beautiful signature of the white Chardonnay from the vineyards of Mas Escorpí and The Serralet, on the hills of Sant Sadurní. A rich, smooth and remarkable elegance. Fermentation at a controlled temperature (14-15°), where the yeast (saccharomyces uvarum) allows a very long fermentation (43 days). A very elegant Chardonnay where the grape comes first.

The Escorpu is a fresh and spicy Chardonnay with good acidity. Not a classic flavor pattern for Chardonnay. The subtly pronounced creamy Chardonnay character is nicely substantiated here by a lot of terroir. Elegant flavor pattern that could use some air. Northern Chardonnay style à la Chablis. Mas Escorpi needs about 2/3 years after bottling to let its terroir annex cépage come to full expression.

FACT : Wine is certified organic (demeter) and Gramona harvests its grapes just before full ripeness, to avoid oxidation, but this results in a low alcoholic wine and gives a fresh, elegant chardonnay.
