Brakkuil Farm is home to the Dedeele Wijnen. It is a unique wine farm located in the St. Helena Bay region on the South African west coast. The vineyards are planted in the flattened sea sand filled with limestone, located just 4 km from the cold Atlantic Ocean.
The Brakkuil farm was established in the early 1800's, while the first grapes (Barbarossa and Palomino) were planted in 1978. The original wine cellar is still in use and was built in 1948 after the end of World War II.

In 2002, farm owner Wimpie Bouwer (father of winemaker John Bouwer) planted 6ha of the first Sauvignon Blanc vines that are used today to produce a unique Sauvignon Blanc. John also produces a Palomino "matured under veil" and an excellent Barbarossa. This is a limited edition variety grown on the only Barbarossa hectare (one of four in the world planted in 1978) in Southern Africa. The soil and terroir of Brakkuil farm consists largely of sea sand with limestone on the bottom, which gives the wines a low PH content.

The Part Wines 6 Sauvignon is, as the name suggests, a 100% Sauvignon Blanc. The name is derived from the French names "Sauvage" (meaning "wild") and "Blanc" (meaning "white"). After the grapes are pressed, the juice is transferred to temporary tanks where the primary fermentation process can begin. The wine ferments on its natural yeasts and that can sometimes happen after a few weeks, but just as well after a few months.

The winemaker John Bouwer is a strong believer in traditional winemaking and he also ages this wine “under veil” without conventional chilling methods. The process runs completely naturally without intervention. After a few months, the wine is transferred to French oak barrels to age for a few more months. Here our Sauvignon Blanc develops its distinctly classic notes and can be compared in style to a mix between a Sauvignon Blanc from the Alto Adige and Bordeaux. The Portion 6 Sauvignon Blanc is a very complex wine with beautiful exotic fruit scents and hints of tomato leaves and citrus notes. A certain saltiness and minerality is also nicely discernible and this is Part 6 Sauvignon Blanc is an absolute gastronomic class and a must with fish (fried, grilled) and delicious with a pan of mussels and you will experience that this wine gives an extra 'pushup' to your dish.

"It's important to us to create something unique. A trend that goes back to the beginnings of traditional winemaking. It's the craftsmanship of understanding the grape's culture and following one-on-one from vineyard to bottling .
Making wine is a feeling, an emotional process..."

The soil and terroir of farm Brakkuil consists largely of sea sand with limestone on the bottom, which gives the wines a low pH level.
