Description
This Du Toitskloof has a fresh palette with aromas of plums, cherries, chocolate, all wrapped in sweet, oak vanilla. A silky mouth full of black cherries. A wine with an excellent price/quality ratio. Review: Double gold NWC 2021 Gold Gilbert & Gaillard 2021

When the founders of Du Toitskloof Wines dreamed of their young, innovative winery, they knew the journey was just as important as the destination. Du Toitskloof Wines was founded in 1962 by 6 winegrowers as a cooperative. The six visionaries bought 18 hectares of land from founder Visser de Wet and received the first grapes in February 1963.
In its early years, Du Toitskloof Wines became known as a producer of bulk wines, but after the winery started concentrating on the bottled wine market in the early 1990s, they quickly built a reputation as a forward-thinking brand not only in introduced the innovative winemaking disciplines in the cellar, but in his commitment to social development as a Fairtrade producer. The winery builds on three principles; they believe in always delivering a product of the highest quality, consistently, without compromising ethically.
Du Toitskloof Wines source most of their grapes from the Breedekloof Valley, all within a 10km radius of the cellar. This ensures that all grapes share similar soil types and microclimates. With a wide variety of terroirs, with grapes grown along cool mountain slopes, in alluvial soils with a high water holding capacity, as well as on sandy and rocky soils.
Most vines are grafted onto Richter 99 and 101-14 rootstocks and receive supplemental irrigation based on hydrometer readings. Leaf canopies are actively managed to ensure the trusses are kept in shade and out of direct sunlight. Grapes are picked when they have reached optimal physiological ripeness, allowing them to retain their intense color and flavor spectrum.
In hot summers, the vineyards are overshadowed early on by the high peaks of the Du Toitskloof Mountains, leading to slow maturation and intensity of flavours. White wines produce tropical aromas of guava, gooseberry, pineapple and lichi, while the red wines produce fruity dark currant, cherry, blackcurrant and fynbos nuances.
