Domaines Paul Mas was founded in 1892. The current owner, Jean-Claude Mas, is without doubt the pioneer in the revival of the Languedoc as a region for quality wines. Jean-Claude characterizes his wines as 'Le Luxe Rural', rural luxury. With international grape varieties he has given Languedoc a 'new world' allure. And with his fashionable wines from local grapes, he has made the local character of the Languedoc hip again among wine lovers. Hubrecht Duijker rightly calls Jean-Claude Mas a 'wine wizard' and at Grandcruwijnen we are the only one in the Netherlands to also carry the high-end Grandcrus of Paul Mas.

18 years after the start of the Domaines Paul Mas adventure, Jean-Claude Mas has taken on a new challenge: to design a wine project from A to Z to produce top quality wines. He created from scratch Clos Astelia, an estate that concentrates the best plots, a state-of-the-art winery inspired by nature, meticulous work in biodynamics... Astelia is the birth of a new viticultural tradition in Languedoc. Astelia is a combination of the letters of the 4 daughters of Jean Claude, namely: Astrid, Elisa, Apolline and Estelle. The Clos Astelia Terres du Midi Astelia is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah coming from a 13Ha vineyard located in Pézenas in Montagnac and is the top model in the range. This wine can easily compete with the bordeaux's which are many times more expensive than this beautiful wine. In the glass, the wine is deep red with violet reflections. In the nose we smell aromas of currant jelly, blueberry, mocha, roasted coffee that evolves into notes of blackcurrant and pepper. On the palate, the wine is powerful and luscious with very present tannins, which bode well for good aging potential. The taste is full with a finish of mocha and chocolate notes. serve at 15/17°C and goes perfectly with a Rossini tournedos, a beef rib and fried porcini mushrooms or nice hard cheeses. The bottles are numbered and only 5,700 bottles of the 2019 Aselia Le Grand Vin have been made.

The vineyard, the house, the cellars, the bottle, my daughters Astrid, Elisa, Apolline and Estelle are ASTELIA. In 1998 my first wine was a Cabernet Sauvignon-Syrah blend, the fruit of my experience with great terroirs. It is also the result of an ambition: to show that the Languedoc is the land of the greatest Cabernet-Sauvignon.
