Domaine Rolet, founded in 1942 by Désiré Rolet. A leading winery from the Jura in France. The estate is currently managed by Désiré's four children: Pierre, Eliane, Guy and Bernard. This trousseau from AOC Arbois is made from grapes grown on the slopes of "Chagnon" and "Leuvrin" in Montigny-lès-Arsures and "Montesserin" in Arbois. After harvest, the grapes are destemmed and fermented spontaneously. After fermentation, the wine matures for 8 months in oak barrels. The result is a light ruby red, silky wine with aromas of red fruit and a light spicy touch. Aromas of strawberries, raspberries and a light pepper note on the nose. In the mouth a soft attack, lots of red fruit in the taste, large volume, juicy and elegant structure with supple tannin. Delicious with steak tartare (or a decayed version with beets). Also delicious with duck breast.

About Domaine Rolet

Domaine Rolet was born in 1942, when Désiré Rolet founded the domain. Domaine Rolet is located in the Jura, a small wine region in the east of France. What started with just 4 hectares has now grown into one of the largest domains in Arbois. In 1958, Désiré's children decided to take over and caused a huge growth spurt. The wine estate today covers 65 hectares. The vineyards extend over four Jura appellations: Arbois, Château-Chalon, Côtes du Jura and Etoile. Sixty years later, the Rolet family has decided to partially hand over the domain. Since 2018, the Flambert, Dupuis and Devillard families (known from Burgundy) have been co-owners of Domaine Rolet. Cédric Ducoté, scion of a winemaking family from Saint-Véran, has been appointed director and takes care of the ins and outs of the domain. Since his arrival, the transition to organic viticulture has begun.

About the Jura

The Jura is encapsulated between Burgundy in the west and Switzerland in the east. It is characterized by forests and mountains and is therefore not only popular with wine lovers, hikers also like to come there. The vineyard area covers 1850 hectares, spread over a thin, long strip of about 80 kilometers from north to south at the foot of the Jura Mountains. The main grape varieties of the region are the local Savagnin for white wine and Poulsard and Trousseau for red wine. We also see a lot of chardonnay and pinot noir here, just like in Burgundy. The Jura may be small, but it is extremely diverse in terms of production. Sparkling wine is made under the name Crémant du Jura, but also reductive and oxidative wines. From dry to sweet. In addition, the Jura is known for two specialties: Vin Jaune and Vin de Paille. One even rarer than the other. Vin Jaune is an oxidatively matured wine, similar to sherry from Andalusia, made from 100% savagnin. It is tight dry with an intense nut scent, high acidity and enormous storage potential. Vin de Paille is a sweet wine made from dried grapes.

About Trousseau

Trousseau or Trousseau Noir, also known as Bastardo and Merenzao, is an ancient variety of red wine grapes originating from the Jura. This Dark JURA grape has the refinement and power. It was already discovered in the mid-nineteenth century that trousseau and the Portuguese BASTARDO are one and the same. And most of Australia's cabernet is also trousseau. The Trousseau is a blue grape that produces solid, fairly light red wines with a strong aroma of red berries, sometimes leather and often a trace of tannin. The Trousseau has a good storage potential.
