2021 Domaine Henri Bourgeois Sancerre Blanc Les Baronnes

Domaine Henri Bourgeois is located in Chavignol, where the wine estate covered 2 hectares 60 years ago. The tenth generation of the family business now owns 65 hectares that provide grapes for half of the wines produced. The family also owns in the Marlborough area of New Zealand and even bottles some of their spicy sancerres. The top wines of sancerre and pouilly-fumé mature in oak barrels.

Sancerre's terroirs are as versatile as the wines they produce. Les Baronnes is a good example of this. This delicious Sancerre is made from grapes from the vineyards between Chavignol and Sancerre. These have a substrate that consists of mixtures of clay and lime. Of which about two thirds is clay and one third is lime. This produces wines with a lively and fruity character, with typical fruity Sauvignon aromas. This is taken into account when making wine, by fermenting at a low temperature, between 15 and 18 degrees. It is then matured on the fine lie, giving it a beautifully ripe and rich character. The epitome of a classic Sancerre, well typified for Sauvignon Blanc, in a special, mouth-filling and powerful style.

A delicious Sancerre from Henri Bourgeois, so quality is assured. The old vines of over 30 years give the wine its concentration. In the glass this sauvignon blanc has a light fresh color with golden shades. In the nose we smell the typical notes of a good sancerre such as pineapple, grapefruit, white flowers, passion fruit and a little citrus. This is a super fruity, aromatic and complex wine. Fresh and lively with citrus fruit and a hint of gooseberry. This Les Baronnes Sancerre is beautifully ripe, juicy and flavoursome, rich and full, nice and dry, not at all severe, due to its soft acids.
