This Faiveley Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Damodes 1er Cru comes from a premier cur vineyard located in the village of Nuits-Saint Georges and this sits smack in the middle of the famous Côte de Nuits AOC, separating the 41 Premier Cru vineyards that make up the region rich is effective in two groups: north versus south. Wines from the north tend to exhibit bright red fruit and floral aromas and flavors while those from the south offer more black fruit, earth driven, larger tannic wines. This appellation also shares a much-coveted border: across the border, you could have one foot in Vosne-Romanée and one foot in Nuits-Saint-Georges.
The soil of the Damodes vineyard consists of brown gravel and is very calcareous. The name 'Les Damodes' could come from a female trinity who watches over the good of the earth, or it could refer to the female druids who had settled on this site. The total area of the appellation is 8ha55a and of this is 81a owned by Domaine Faiveley. The vineyards are oriented to the east. The vines were planted in 1983 and 1989. On the nose, the Faiveley Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Damodes 1er Cru has aromas of cassis, plum, orange peel and new oak. On the palate, this Burgundy is medium to full boedied and is an intense and lively wine with a concentrated core of fruit, framed by powdery tannins. Finishing off with a long, mineral finish, this is another great wine.
The history of Domaine Faiveley dates back to 1825. Family owned for 7 generations, the domain is located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in the heart of Burgundy. 127 hectares of vineyards, spread over the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise, of which 12 vineyards with Grand Cru classification, 25 with Premier Cru classification and 6 vineyards with a "Monopole" classification. The estate is managed by Erwan Faiveley, who manages the work in the vineyards in-house to maintain control over the quality of the grapes. The hand-picked harvest is carefully transported to vaulted cellars from the 19th century, located in Nuits-Saint-Georges. To make great Burgundy, Erwan Faiveley combines the principles of modern oenology with traditional aging in French oak barrels. All this contributes to Faiveley wines being highly regarded.
