2019 Chateau Le Puy Cuvee Barthelemy

This refined red wine comes from the Côtes de Franc, which is a blend of 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet-Sauvignon. This is the top wine of Chateau Le Puy. Unlike other Bordeaux wines, they do not first make separate wines and then blend them into a unique cuvée. No. They pick everything together and then prepare the wine completely together. This very rare method gives a more complex texture, with different flavors coming from the different yeasts, grapes and plots.

The Barthelemy is a highly sought after wine and one of the most favored wines in Japan. This is mainly because Le Barthélemy 2003 in a comedy Japanese comic series about wine - "The drops of god" was recognized as the wine that can fulfill your highest expectations of all time. After that, sales followed like an express train. The entire 2003 volume was completely sold out in just a few days. Today the Château is "The most popular wine in Tokyo and its surroundings". Barthelemy La Cuvee is made from a selection of the best vineyards and vinified without the addition of sulfur, with a long aging in barrels. In the nose beautiful aromas of plums, cassis, cedar, herbs, pepper, roasted almonds and chocolate. In the mouth we have an incredibly complex length, and above all an impressive balance.

The wine has been aged 24 in oak barrels (deliberately no new oak because the grape must predominate) and comes from a vineyard on a lime/rocky plateau and is grown without fertilizers, herbicides or insecticides, harvest is done manually. The fermentation is long and vinified without the addition of sulfur.

Château Le Puy, Famille Amoreau de père en fils depuis 1610. Not Bordeaux made like thirty years ago but Bordeaux made like 100 or 200 years ago. No chemical sprays (biodynamic culture) in the vineyard, nothing from additives during vinification (nor sugar, yeasts, sulphite or other things), aging on old 'foudres' and barriques, not filtered.
