Since the takeover in 1995 by the Dutch businessman Eric Albada Jelgersma, chateau Giscours has made a comeback with its fantastic terroir. The domain covers more than 80 hectares of vineyard and produces a very reliable but above all classic Margaux with a lot of depth. The Giscours is a beautiful vintage. In the glass it has a beautiful dark purple color. The 2019 is a blend of mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It is a medium to full-bodied wine with beautiful notes of espresso, red fruit, (cherry, raspberry) liquorice, leather and has a very refined scent of flowers and fruit with a non-dominant but nicely present oak tones. In the mouth, the wine is round, juicy and can be drunk now, but can also be kept for another 40 years.
Giscours was in a dubious state when Nicolas Tari acquired it in 1954. Substantial investments followed and quality improved by leaps and bounds. In 1995 Giscours came into the possession of the Dutch grocer (supermarkets to Super de Boer and Edah) Eric Albada Jelgersma, who also invested heavily here, just like at his other Château du Tertre property and further improved the quality through a rigorous replanting and replanting program. The cellars were shed and new equipment was purchased. Today Giscours is again “the grand seigneur” it once was and worthy of a 3rd cru. With 200 ha of which 80 ha of vineyard one of the greatest assets in the Médoc.
