The Beaulieu Vineyard Georges de Latour 2019 has just been awarded 100 points by James SUCKLING and as " the wine of the year 2022 " and has also received very high ratings from the well-known wine journalists. For more than 100 years, Beaulieu Vineyard has set the benchmark for rich, classic Napa Valley wines. The Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon has been widely recognized as Rutherford's benchmark Cabernet Sauvignon since its first vintage in 1936. The 2019 vintage is truly exemplary, with a nuanced, exuberant nose featuring dark, ripe berry flavors of black raspberry, red currant and black cherry, alongside delicate herbal notes of wild lavender, rose, fresh mint, sage and thyme. Exotic spiced notes from the well-integrated new French oak barrel aging add caramel, cedar and cloves, seamlessly accompanying the depth, elegance and balance of this world-renowned Cabernet. Packed with tremendous concentration and power, the broad palate is multi-layered with enticing flavors of dark black cherry, red currant, cocoa bean, amaretto, espresso and graphite. Signature "Rutherford Dust" tannins add
a fine texture of cocoa powder, with a long lift and lingering finish, while secondary notes of earth, espresso and pencil shavings add complexity and nuance. The mouth-watering palate is smooth and fresh, with a balanced acidity, demonstrating a classically elegant, opulent and seductive character. Incredibly drinkable when hatched in its youth and keeps very well for many years.

For the Beaulieu Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve Georges de Latour, they hand-select grapes from the finest Cabernet Sauvignon vines from the west bank of the Rutherford AVA in the iconic BV Ranches No. 1 and No. 2 originally planted by Georges de Latour in the early 1900s. They focused on clonal selections (6, 4, 169, 7, and 8), which yield small berries with the high peel-to-juice ratio needed to make intense, long-lived wines. Selected from vines deeply rooted in well-drained alluvial fan soils, the fruit was hand-picked and optically sorted to ensure the highest quality. At the state-of-the-art winery, dedicated exclusively to making Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, part of the wine is fermented in new French oak barrels for early integration and a dense, rich texture. The rest of the must is fermented in stainless steel and concrete tanks to preserve the freshness of the fruit. After prolonged skin contact, the wine was pressed and returned to barrels for malolactic fermentation and maturation. A small amount of Petit Verdot was blended with the Cabernet Sauvignon to further enhance the aroma and flavor profile. They work closely with select cooperages to ensure that the barrel style and consistency is just right. This regime is very important for the high quality of this wine.

Vineyard for 2019 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Georges de Latour Private Reserve

The adventure of the Beaulieu Vineyard winery begins in 1900 when Georges de Latour and his wife bought 1.6 hectares of land in Rutherford. In 1940 they could expect the first vintage. It has since become one of the most historic wineries with Grand Cru status in Napa Valley. The quality is high and there is also a lot of innovation within the winery.

Legend has it that Fernande pronounced 'Quel beau lieu' when she first saw the country. Literally translated, this means 'what a beautiful place' and Beaulieu Vineyard derives its name from this. De Latour became known for importing Phylloxera-resistant vine rootstocks from Europe to rebuild California's recently devastated fledgling wine industry. After Prohibition, when most wineries were forced to close, Beaulieu Vineyard increased its business by selling sacramental wine to the Catholic Church. church. After the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, De Latour devoted himself entirely to research and innovation to bring out the best expression of Rutherford Estate in the form of wine and he named it the Private Reserve which at the time was the private wine of the Latour family used to be.

In 1940, Beaulieu Vineyard released Private Reserve's first vintage and named it "Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon," a wine destined to become Napa Valley's first "cult wine." Today, Beaulieu Vineyard is known as one of the most historic wineries with Grand Cru status in Napa Valley and sets the standard for quality and innovation in Napa Valley wine production. It holds a unique place in California winery history and holds one of the most collected American Cabernet Sauvignons in the world.
