Description
The Valenciso Reserva is a 100% pure Tempranillo from the calcareous soils around Haro in the Rioja Alta. CompañÃa Bodeguera de Valenciso consciously opts for quality instead of quantity, so aggressive pruning takes place (yield only 38hl per hectare). This unique project in Rioja Alta initially had only one goal; making one wine from only tempranillo and then marketing an excellent Rioja Reserva. This vintage is characterized by a very long maturation. Even the malolactic fermentation lasted until the summer following the harvest. The wine was aged for 17 months in French oak barrels, a third of which were new oak. The wine has subtle and elegant notes of red and black fruit, cedar wood, nutmeg and vanilla. The feature that stands out most here is the balance, something Valenciso is very good at. en producing classically proportioned wines with the right amount of fruit, acidity and wood. This is a wine that can only get better over the next 10 years.
94/100 Parker (2016) and 94/100 James Suckling (2018)

Winemakers with over 25 years of experience in La Rioja. In 1998 they revived an old winery and gave it the name Valenciso which is a combination of the two surnames (Valentin and Enciso). The vineyards and bodega are located in Ollauri, 4 km from Haro in the north of La Rioja Alta. An area that differs from the rest of the Rioja by a climate with Atlantic influences and Mediterranean heat. The vineyards are located on a clay-calcareous terroir, so ideal for growing grapes. CompañÃa Bodeguera de Valenciso works on a small scale and authentic with a lot of passion. The wine continues to receive international high ratings with 90+ ratings from Penin and Parker.
