Only 1,300 bottles of this very tasteful Tuscan Passito are made every year. The San Germano is a beautiful deep amber in color and has the typical aroma of well-dried grapes (Vin Santo), spices and dried fruit (especially figs and apricots) on the nose. Intense, sweet wine rich and full of fragrance. The wine is made by the quality winery Tenuta di Ghizzano and is certified organic ("Suolo e Salute" certificate).
Named after the patron saint of the village of Ghizzano, this wine is made from 80% Trebbiano, 15% Colombana and 5% Malvasia Bianca grapes harvested by hand at the end of September and then hung on stainless steel wires to dry. After about 4 months, the best grapes are carefully selected and pressed. The juice is then transferred to 'caratelli's', traditional oak barrels with a capacity of 50 liters, for a period of 3 to 3.5 years. The winery ensures that the wine has enough space inside the barrels to ferment. The vineyards are located in Peccioli (Pisa) and are approximately 180 to 200 meters above sea level with a south, south-westerly orientation. This dessert wine tastes excellent with pastries, chocolate (truffles, pralines), ice cream desserts and with medium-matured cheeses.
