Bodega Tentenublo belongs to the absolute new style of Rioja makers and has made two new wines in 2016. DeLos Corrillos Blanco and Tinto. The Blanco is made from a blend of Calagraño with 10% Viura and Malvasía each. These grapes come from four tiny plots in Viñaspre. The vineyards are all between 40 and 100 years old and they worked with minimal intervention and tillage. The very small vineyards are located in an inhospitable, almost impassable area and therefore only manual work can be done here.
Very gentle crushing of the grapes Manual pressing of the grapes and the grapes are left with skins in open barrels for 5 days. After that, the further aging takes place in chestnut barrels in which the wine stays for 7 months sur lie (ie on its lees). The Tentenublo Corillos, for example, is a sensation of fresh white fruit with a beautifully integrated light wood tone. In the glass the wine is yellow, waxy with shades of orange as a result of rearing on chestnut and soaking with skin. The taste is long lasting, medium to full bodied, somewhat fat with a nice acidity and fine tannins. A great complex wine with a nice aftertaste. Less than 1000 bottles are made of these wines. Parker ends his review with "Truly handcrafted terroir wines"
Fun fact : The Los Corrillos label is a joke to Roberto Oliván who made these wines by selecting small tufts, spread over a vineyard. That's why he is depicted on the label as a character flying over a vineyard, examining each vine and taking only the small part that now interests him in his new creation.
In some cases, the wines are given a kind of WAX seal instead of a regular capsule. This has no further purpose and has the disadvantage that it hardens fairly quickly and pieces can easily crumble (spontaneously, during transport, etc.). This has no influence on the quality of the wine. We cannot give any further guarantee for this.
One of our latest discoveries in the Rioja is a family business called "TENTENUBLO" (this refers to the ringing of the bells used in the villages of La Rioja to repel hail during the growing season). Oliván Roberto has been appointed on behalf of this winery. Although Oliván is relatively young, it already has a very renowned status as a top oenologist. Olivan does not follow the normal structure but makes modern Rioja's and also from vineyards that are unique. All Tentenublo vineyards are high by Rioja standards (at +600 meters) and have a loamy / marl soil. The sticks have to work hard and a lot is left to nature. The yields are extremely low and the wines surprise every Rioja connoisseur. Although this is a young winery, we predict that this house will belong to the absolute Spanish and International top in the coming years.
