The Reserva is the top model of Casal das Freiras and is only made in the good years and every year the Tejo Appelation has to approve the wine before the predicate Reserva can be used. In contrast to other countries (and regions), in the Tejo, each vintage is inspected again and it is assessed whether the protected title Reserva is awarded for a vintage.

The Casal das Freiras is a blend of the typical Portuguese Tejo grapes Tempranillo (Aragonez), Trincadeira and the Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are picked entirely by hand with a first selection in the vineyard. The grapes are completely destemmed and lightly crushed. The wine is fermented in Algerian amphorae followed by an extended period of maceration to obtain perfect colour, structure and tannins at a controlled temperature with frequent mixing of the must. Then the wine partially matures in French oak barrels and in Amforen and also gets a bottle aging of 6 months

The result is a complex and elegant wine with an intense garnet red colour. The wine is very harmonious and elegant with a silky mouth structure and refined tannins. Nice notes of spices, a little cedar and ripe red fruit. It ends with a long and seductive finish. This is now a good example of what people in Portugal are capable of because for this type of quality wine you are guaranteed to pay double if this would have been a French or Italian wine.
