Description

The 2018 Numanthia is very balanced and serious with well integrated oak and a soft palate with round tannins. It was fermented with selected yeasts and aged for 18 months in French oak barrels of 225 and 600 litres, 60% of which were new. The bouquet shows great fruit concentration and clarity. The aromatics are almost Médoc-like. The palate is full-bodied with intense tannins but it has a silky texture. The palate is warm but also very fresh and there is real attack on the mid-palate with hints of graphite. This wine should be on the wish list (and very high) of every Toro lover.

FACT: Numanthia belonged to the Eguren family wineries (such as Sierra Cantabria, Teso la Monja) and a few years ago it was bought by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.

96/100 James Suckling

The Numanthia vineyards are located next to the small village of Valdifinjas in the province of Zamora. The vineyard was founded in 1998 by the Eguren family from the Rioja region. From the beginning, Marcos and Miguel Eguren's goal was to produce the best wines from the Toro region. The company was later bought by the French luxury products giant LVMH.This region is located in the south-east of the province of Zamora and covers 62,000 hectares. Toro wines are made exclusively from one grape variety: The Tinta de Toro. Bodegas Numanthia harvests very selectively, resulting in one of the lowest yields in the world, namely 2000 to 3000 kg. per hectare.
