Description
The Montaribaldi Palazzina Barbaresco vineyard is located in the municipality of Neive in the heart of the Barbaresco at an altitude of 220 meters with a south-westerly location. Of course this is made from 100% Nebbiolo. The Nebbiolo is a late ripening grape variety and for the Montaribaldi Palazzina Barbaresco the grapes are only picked in the 2nd or 3rd week of October. After the first selection in the vineyard a 2nd selection takes place on the selection tables and only the right grapes are destemmed and lightly crushed. Then they are put in stainless steel thermo-conditioned tanks where the alcoholic fermentation takes place. The alcoholic fermentation lasts about one week at a temperature of 28-32 ° C. At Montaribaldi there is no hurry and the wine is then left in peace and quiet in contact with its lees at a temperature of 20-22 ° C.
Now the wine is ready to start maturing in oak barrels. Both used barriques (225 L) and oak barrels (2,500-3,000 l) are used. The aging lasts for 20 months. Finally, after almost 2 years after the harvest, the Barbaresco DOCG Palazzina is bottled and after that stays for at least 6 months in the cellars of Montaribaldi. In the glass this Nebbiolo Barbaresco is garnet red. On the nose the wine is rich with a touch of violets and aromas of cocoa, vanilla and tobacco coming from the maturation in oak. After some swirling spicy notes such as nutmeg which merge with floral hints such as lavender. On the palate the wine is full bodied, fine and delicate but with lighter tannins than the other Barbarescos of Montaribaldi. The Barbaresco DOCG Palazzina is already beautiful and pleasant to drink, but at the same time perfect for a long maturation in the bottle. Very refined. The wine is perfect to be combined with salami, meat and cheese.

BAROLO VS BARBARESCO
Piemont - synonymous with truffles, risotto and, of course, delicious wines! - is considered one of Italy's premier wine regions. The local conditions of terrain, soil and weather produce some fantastic wines. As for the reds, the Barolos and Barbarescos are world-famous, powerful, ageing wines. Despite Barolo and Barbaresco being made from the same grape, Nebbiolo, and produced in neighbouring regions within 10 miles of each other, the wines of Barbaresco and Barolo have some distinctive differences.
The Barbaresco area is located south of the Tanaro river and due to its location the area has a slightly higher average temperature which allows the Nebbiolo grape to ripen slightly earlier than in the Barolo area. Young tannins in a young Barbaresco are often not as hard as Barolo and under DOCG rules it is permitted to release Barbaresco for sale a year earlier than Barolo. The most pronounced difference between the two wines is that the tannins of Barbaresco tend to soften more quickly making the wine more approachable at a younger age than Barolo. The Barbaresco area is smaller than the Barolo area with an annual production of around 35% of Barolo production which means that Barbaresco is not as widely available on the market.

The 'azienda agricola Montaribaldi' is historically a family business, located in the middle of the Langhe hills in the small village of Barbaresco. The Montaribaldi winery has been owned by the Taliano family from the beginning and has 19 hectares in the Barberesco area. In 1994 Luciano and Roberto took over the company from their father and immediately decided to only produce high quality wines. It is still a real family business, father Guiseppe and mother Carla as well as the wives of the owners, Antonella and Franca all cooperate. At present they produce about 75000 bottles a year. Thanks to the perfect location of the vineyards of Montaribaldi and the typical white soil of the hills in Langhe, the elegant wines that come from them have a long life. Note that the land around the Montaribaldi vineyards is from Gaja. The family makes some of the most famous wines from the Piedmont region: Barbaresco DOCG, Barolo DOCG, Barbera d'Alba DOC, Barbera d'Asti DOCG, Roero Arneis. They offer a complete range of wines, from grapes typical of this region. Typical of this winery is that the wines have their origin in Piedmont, are always recognizable as a 'Montaribaldi' wine and are sustainably grown and produced. As they call it themselves: making 'vineyard wines' distinguishes them from others.
