The Mazzei Siepi is a blend of 50% Merlot and 50% Sangiovese coming from one of the best vineyards of Castello di Fonterutoli. By using blend and especially this ratio, this becomes a so-called Super Tuscan (too much Merlot according to the old-fashioned Italian Appelation rules). This is marrying what many Italian top wines have been doing for years (Tignanello, Sassicaia, etc). The grapes matured for 18 months in French Oak. The Siepi is a very elegant, soft warm wine with dark fruit in the nose such as cherry, blackberry and blueberry, but also some leather, cedar and espresso. Beautiful aromas in the nose, but what makes the wine very unique is the mouthfeel. Warm, elegant, refined is the mouth of this classic-looking wine. We have also observed this with the Namrot of Ghizzano , which also has an almost Pomreol-like wine but with an Italian twist.
De Gambero Rosso wrote about Mazzei Siepi: "One of the 50 wines that changed Italy's wine style". You will be told!
