Emilio Moro is seen as the example of the winemaker in the Dueros (benchmark producer). Malleolus comes from the Latin word Majuelo which means 'little vineyard. The tempranillo grapes come from vines ranging between 25-75 years old. The Malleolus is only made in the good years.
The Malleolus is a Tinto Fino 100% variety (the Emilio Moro clone of the Tempranillo) and has been macerated with its own skins for 18 days. After malolactic fermentation in stainless steel vats, it is aged in French oak barrels. In the glass, the wine has a very deep, intense cherry red color. This Malleolus presents a concentration typical of the year 2017, a result of the aforementioned low yield. It has class, elegance, ripe aroma, good intensity and great personality. The balance between ripeness and freshness is excellent, and the months of aging in the 500 liter barrels have given the Malleolus a very nice complexity. It is powerful and structured and on the palate with good balance and a long, sustained passage.
The Malleolus has a very showy, seductive nose of smoked bacon, roasted coffee, cereals, violets, cherries and raspberries with lots of spice and very well integrated oak. The taste is medium to full-bodied with nice refined tannins. Beautiful for now but will certainly improve over the years.
This unique version Melchior of 18 liters (no less than 24 bottles of normal size) is also packed in an original wooden box.
This is a great bottle of no less than 18 liters. Super festive and also, given the large amount of wine, tastier and has a longer storage potential than a normal bottle. The wine is in a beautiful wooden box, so for example very nice to use bottle and box at the start of a party to write down the names of the guests and then open the bottle later in the evening. The beautiful empty bottle and wooden box with the names of your guests are a nice memory of the party. The best way to serve such a large bottle is to pour the wine into the decanter and fill the glasses from there.
