2018 Domaine Leroy Bourgogne S.A. Blanc

Lalou Bize-Leroy is a monument of French viticulture. She was born in 1932 as Marcelle Leroy, daughter of the famous Burgundy wine merchant Henri Leroy. In 1955 she took over her father's trading activities. From 1974 to 1992, Lalou Bize-Leroy was co-manager (and part owner) of the world-famous Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) where she was responsible for marketing. Thanks in part to her enormous commitment and charisma, DRC enjoyed unparalleled media attention for decades. Leroy is one of the most prestigious names in Burgundy.

Characteristic of the wine style of Domaine Leroy are: fully biodynamic viticulture since 1989, without chemical pesticides and fertilizers, drastic pruning and thinning of the young grape bunches, extremely low yields, very long soaking and fermentation periods of whole (non-destemmed) bunches, 100 % new oak barrels, no clarification nor filtration, unprecedented terroir expression and an enormously long laying potential. While most other Burgundy wines have long since blown their last breath, those of Domaine Leroy are still surprisingly lively.

Leroy now also makes other wines, which are without exception of a very high standard. Leroy's entry point is Bourgogne Blanc. This beautiful Burgundy is a wine with two faces. In its youth, light greenish-yellow, with a fresh, mainly floral nose and clean aromas of apple and citrus. Freshness, purity and minerality everywhere. After thorough extra support, the color becomes light gold; the bouquet tends more towards ripe citrus fruits, ripe apple, mineral notes, spicy toasted oak and light oxidative nuances. Elegant, lively, fresh and clean wine, with a long and captivating finish.
