At the mere mention of its name, this garden-like terroir inspires grandeur. Clos l'Eglise is located on a fault line of the Pomerol plateau, the origin of the most remarkable wines of the appellation. Nature is at work here and, under the right circumstances, promises to reward us with beautiful fruit.
At Clos l'Eglise, the 5.90 hectares of Merlot and Cabernet Franc thrive on clayey soils with slopes of iron-rich soil that give the wine its unique character. Hélène Garcin and Patrice Levêque cultivate this exceptional heritage today. Through the vision of this enthusiast, Clos l'Eglise has regained the place it had a century ago, at the height of the appellation.
The 2018 Clos L'Eglise is located opposite the church of the town of Pomerol and delivers unique wines due to the ferruginous soil. It is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc where the vineyards are sustainably/organically maintained and cultivated. Of course it is picked by hand. The wine is aged for 100% in new French oak barrels for 18-24 months. The Merlot was harvested September 19-20 and the Cabernet Franc was harvested October 10. In the glass is the wine. Colored deep garnet purple, it explodes on the nose with bold, expressive canned plums, blueberry compote and sandalwood with nuances of lilac, wood smoke and forest floor. On the palate the wine is full bodied, rich, velvety and decadently fruity on the palate, offering low to low voluptuous fruit, with a long and spicy finish. The wine is an incredible charmer, immediately evoking pleasure and certain seduction. When it reveals its elegance, its roundness, its opulence, it is a tribute to its origin, rare and inimitable.
