Château Talbot takes its name from the heroic English commander Connetable Talbot, who was killed at the Battle of Castillon in 1453. The largest and one of the oldest Château of Saint Julien, it is ideally situated a short distance from the Gironde, where the vineyards are situated on a subsoil of fine gravel and produce one of the most beautiful red wines of Saint Julien.
The popular Château Talbot makes wines with good value for money. In the last 10 years a lot has been invested in equipment and the vineyards and that is why they make good constant top bordeaux year in and year out, while these are still relatively affordable. The Connetable de Talbot 2018 is the 2nd line of Talbot from the great year 2018. It is a blend of 43% Cabernet Sauvignon and 57% Merlot and has had 16 months aging in oak, of which 20% new barrels. As with many second wines, the price/quality is more than excellent. In the nose aromas of blackberries, blueberries, herbs and cedar. It is full bodied with elegant tannins. Fleshy and well balanced in the mouth. Beautiful, pure fruit on the aftertaste. 92/100 James Suckling
