The 2018 la Fleur-Petrus is a blend of 91% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. in the glass it has a medium garnet purple color and a slightly closed nose to start but which soon unfolds with some time and some oxygen and then comes to release earthy notes of black truffles, mossy tree bark and moist soil over a core of prunes, wild blueberries and red currants, with a hint of menthol. De la Fleur-Petrus i is medium to full bodied with a beautiful velvety texture with layers of black fruit and earthy flavors ending with a seductive perfume. Astonishingly beautiful. Bottle it for a good 3-4 years and drink it for the next 30 years or more.

This la Fleur-Petrus also comes directly from the Chateau. We always buy all our wines from the importers or chateaus so that authenticity can be checked and that we know for sure that these wines are always stored in good conditions .

Vineyard for 2018 Chateau La Fleur-Pétrus

Château La Fleur-Pétrus is one of the most renowned vineyards of Pomerol. This historic estate, located exclusively on the plateau, was named in the 18th century because of its location opposite the towns of 'Petrus' and 'La Fleur'. Based in Libourne since 1937, Jean-Pierre Moueix noticed early on the excellent quality of the Pomerol appellation. Château La Fleur-Pétrus was his very first acquisition in 1950. Shortly afterwards, he bought Château Trotanoy in 1953.

The personality of Château La Fleur-Pétrus lies in the careful association of the famous gravel and clay terroirs of the Pomerol plateau. Located 33 to 38 meters above sea level, the vineyard derives its identity from the nuances of the soil and the height of each plot. The plots dominated by gravel tend to yield wines of great elegance, while those dominated by clay are distinctly velvety, dense and structured.

Château La Fleur-Pétrus consists mainly of Merlot, which gives the wine softness and generosity. Cabernet Franc, planted on gravel and fine clay, provides rigor and complexity, while a small percentage of Petit Verdot, planted on fine gravel, gives a touch of spice to the finish.

The wine combines a unique elegance with the generosity and structure typical of the great vineyards of Pomerol. An attentive tasting reveals remarkable refinement, complexity and a hint of violet.

The owner of this domain is the Moueix family. Jean-Pierre Moueix was born in Correze in 1913 and moved with his parents to Saint-Émilion after the Great Depression of 1929. At the time, the wines of Pomerol and Saint-Émilion were not yet widely recognised. A visionary, Jean-Pierre Moueix envisioned great potential both in the Merlot grape and in its ability to mature when grown in the best terroirs of its adopted region. In 1950, he began to expand his trading activities with the purchase of several well-known vineyards, starting with Château La Fleur-Pétrus in Pomerol, followed by Château Magdelaine, Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé, in 1952, and Château Trotanoy, Pomerol, in 1953. Over the next four decades, he continued to successfully develop the wine merchant and the production elements of the company simultaneously.

The pinnacle of his career was the acquisition of Château Petrus. He entrusted the care to his son Christian. Jean-François Moueix, his eldest son, inherited the property and took over the management in 2009 so here is also the reference to Petrus so in fact one son got Chateau Petrus and Jean-pierre's other son the other domains such as La Fleur and Trotanoy .
