2018 Bodegas San Román

Bodegas San Román (in the past also known as Bodegas Maurodos) is owned by the renowned winemaker Mariano Garcia and his sons Eduardo and Alberto and the producers of beautiful wines such as the Prima and the Mauro (you know the famous names of VEga Sicilia, Mauro, Garmon and Ossian). The San Roman is only made in the good vintages. The San Roman is 100% Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) from a 35 year old vineyard which is situated on a sandy, stony soil rich in clay in the Toro. The San Roman matured for 25 months in French and American oak, 80% of which is new. He lays a film of an opaque purple color against the glass and gives a complex bouquet of toasted oak, graphite, moist earth, licorice, tapenade and blackcurrant. The taste is full, with an abundance but fine tannins and sufficient acidity and persistence. A Toro with character. The 2018 is a beautiful version of San Roman with 94+/100 points and a drinking window to 2032+
