On top of a beautiful hill southwest of Montalcino is the historic site where the wise men searched for Ara Jani, the legendary altar of the Roman god Janus. The stately Villa di Argiano was built in the Renaissance by the noble Pecci family from Siena. The estate changed hands several times before Countess Noemi Marone Cinzano acquired it in 1992. The authentic cellars are still in use and contain a veritable vinotheque of old Brunellos. Just outside the old domain, surrounded by 48 hectares of vineyards, are the more modern installations for bottling and storage. In addition to traditional wines such as Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino, sangiovese shows itself from a completely different side in the idiosyncratic and contemporary 'Suolo'. Cabernet sauvignon, syrah and merlot find each other in equal parts in 'Solengo', a modern and concentrated wood-aged IGT. Argiano has a super luxurious agriturismo with a fantastic view and a sympathetic enoteca where you can still buy an old vintage.
Argiano's Rosso di Montalcino is a pleasant and cheerful red wine with fresh dark red fruit and cherry with mineral notes. The wine is medium-bodied with a fruity softness with fresh fruit flavors on the palate and the natural acidity you get with Sangiovese with soft tannins and a wonderfully long finish. This is a nice stand-alone wine but is definitely recommended with pasta with fresh tomato sauce.

At the top of a beautiful hill southwest of Montalcino is the historic site where the wise men searched for Ara Jani, the legendary altar of the Roman god Janus. The stately Villa di Argiano was built in the Renaissance by the noble Pecci family from Siena. The estate passed into the hands of Countess Noemi Marone Cinzano in 1992, who resold it to a Brazilian investment company in 2013. The authentic cellars are still in use and contain a real vinotheque of old Brunello's. Just outside the old domain, surrounded by 48 hectares of vineyards, are the more modern bottling and storage facilities.
In addition to traditional wines such as the Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino, sangiovese shows itself from a completely different angle in the wine 'Suolo', a very modern interpretation of sangiovese. Cabernet sauvignon, syrah and merlot meet in equal parts in 'Solengo', a modern and concentrated wood-aged IGP. Argiano also has a nice enoteca where you can still buy an old vintage.
