2018 Antoine Jobard Meursault Les Tillets
After working alongside his father for several years, Antoine has officially been in charge of this prestigious property since 2007. Although Francois has been enjoying his retirement for some years now, he can still be found almost daily in the vineyards and cellar to assist his son. With the arrival of Antoine, the style of the wines has changed slightly. Some minor changes made during winemaking have made them more accessible and refined, without losing any of their character. Antoine prefers to work with finer lies than his father. He also bottles the wine in April/May of the second year following the harvest. These are just details, but the quality of the wines has increased further as a result.
The Meursault Tillets is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes from a small 40 year old vineyard of only 1.62 HA located on a slate plateau. The Meursault Tillets has a rich nose with spring flowers, pear, white fruit and very beautifully integrated oak. This is not a butter bomb but refined where the acids and the fruit reinforce each other. The taste is fresh and powerful with subtle honey notes. Beautiful wine with a very nice aftertaste.
Jobard's statement about the wine best reflects the style being pursued:
“If you like Meursaults that are big, broad and oaky, and are as yellow as French headlights, then this may not be the domaine for you. However, if you like Meursaults that are taut, mineral, complex and refined, then Jobard is your man.”
