2017 Valdesil Sobre Lias Blanco
One of the upcoming stars in the field of white wines from the Valdeorras is the winery Val De Sil which focuses strongly on the Galician grape de Godello. The bodega has its vineyards in the Sil valley with its unique egg grounds that make the wines of this house unique. Floral, fresh and mineral.
The Valdesil Godello Sobre Lias is a blend of various vineyards with slate soils. The wine is fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and no malolactic fermentation and stays in contact with its own lees with weekly battonage for 5-7 months. The Sobre Lias is a very complex almost unique wine that will improve over time. Robert Parker drank the 2008 version in 2015 and was very impressed by this (read the review under the Parker tab). The wine has an excellent acidity with smoky notes together with toasted bread and toffee. Beautifully mineral and citrus and a fresh but firm aftertaste. The lover of a Godello (or Chardonnay) you should definitely try this wine. We recommend a drinking window from 2019-2025. The lover of a Godello (or good Chardonnay) should definitely try this wine.
