2018 Ferrer Bobet Vinyes Velles

Winding along the steep slopes of the mountains is the road that connects the two villages of Falset and Porrera in the southeast of the Comarca Priorat in the province of Tarragona. Vineyards, Mediterranean pines and holm oaks provide colorful speckles of green and brown amidst the reddish color that dominates this region. Behind a sharp bend, our goal appears: the Ferrer Bobet vineyard, an impressive building that towers over the valley that surrounds it. Some have described it as a ship stranded among the vineyards, others as a glider floating on the edge of the abyss. In any case, it is the symbol of a project marked by respect: respect for wine culture and the world of wine, respect for the barren region with a long tradition of wine-growing and, finally, respect for wine lovers. With this project, Ferrer and Bobet aim to produce a wine "that reflects the mineral essence that characterizes these areas with purity and harmony"

Ferrer Bobet Priorat is vinified from 70% cariñena (old vines) and 30% garnacha. The grapes come from slate terraces with the famous Llicorella terroir. The grapes are meticulously harvested by hand in small boxes of 10 kg. The grapes then go through a double selection. The must is moved by gravity. This is followed by temperature-controlled fermentation in 1,500 l and 3,000 l wooden barrels. The malolactic fermentation took place in French oak barriques. The aging (also in French oak barrels) lasted 15 months. The wine matured in the bottle for another 11 months, after which it was released on the market. This beautiful red wines has mineral notes, liqueur-like black fruit, Asian spices, and floral notes. It is loaded with fruit and has an amazing finish.
