2017 Domaine Prieur Les Pichons Sancerre Rouge
Les Pichons is the only vineyard on the estate that is planted with blue grapes. Les Pichons is practically a monopole, because almost entirely in the possession of the Prieurs. The "Les Pichons" from Domaine Prieur & Fils is Prieur's most beautiful red Sancerre and is produced in a very small edition and has limited availability. Les Pichons is at the bottom of the Monts Damné hill and the top layer of the soil contains eroded marl from that vineyard. The bottom layer is rich in lime and fairly infertile, which ensures low yields and a lot of concentration in the grapes. The Pinot Noir grapes are harvested manually. After fermentation, the wine matures for 14 months in oak barrels and is then bottled unfiltered. The nose of red fruit with complex aromas of spices and refined toast is clear about this Pinot Noir. After two years of bottle aging, the wine is drunk and the tannins are silky smooth. In the mouth, Les Pichons from Domaine Prieur is soft and delicately supported by silk soft tannins. The aftertaste is fresh, fruity and slightly spicy.
