This enormous terroir has been brought back to life by Nicolas Thienpont and Stephane Derenoncourt. The Chateau Pavie Macquin vineyard, which is planted in deep clay and limestone soils, is located next to Chateau Pavie and Chateau Troplong Mondot. Pavie-Macquin is not far from Gerard's little treasure, Pavie-Decesse. Chateau Pavie Macquin is a very rich and aromatic wine made in a biodynamic way. Since 1990, the vineyard has been cultivated here in a biodynamic way, which has certainly not harmed the level of the wine.
The Pavie Macquin has a garnet purple color in the glass. On the nose, the Pavie Macquin has black cherries, blackberries and blueberries followed by roses, cedarwood and cigars plus a hint of wild thyme. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, again with cherries and berries framed by firm but beautifully ripe tannins and a very fine finish. This is a classic Saint-Émilion from a great vintage/vintage.
