Domaines Paul Mas was founded in 1892. The current owner is Jean-Claude Mas and this is undoubtedly the pioneer in the field of the revival of the Languedoc as a region for quality wines. Jean-Claude characterizes his wines as 'Le Luxe Rural', rural luxury. With international grape varieties, he has given the Languedoc 'new world' allure. And with his fashionable wines from local grapes, he has made the local character of the Languedoc hip again for wine lovers. Hubrecht Duijker rightly calls Jean-Claude Mas a 'wine wizard' and at Grandcruwijnen we are the only ones in the Netherlands who also carry Paul Mas's high end Grandcrus.

Château Lauriga was originally an authentic family domain, which had long been in the hands of the French-Catalan family Clar. A few years ago, Jean-Claude Mas had the opportunity to take over the family domain.
The Carignan, Grenache, Syrah grapes come from the sandy vineyards of the Côtes des Catalanes in the south of France. The terroir is characterized by clay, limestone and gravel. The vineyard is flooded by the Tramontane wind that keeps the vineyards in top condition without interventises. The diversity of the Lauriga terroir makes it possible to produce wines with a subtle palette of aromas and flavors. For Château Lauriga, caring for the environment and preserving biodiversity is a top priority, as is caring for the people who work in the vineyard. When the vineyards were restructured in the nineties, they were replanted in relation to the path of the sun (to optimize the effects of photosynthesis on the complexity of aromas) and also in the direction of the Tramontane, so that wind damage to the vines to prevent.

After the manual harvest, the grapes undergo a fermentation with regular pumping to obtain more color and tannins. The fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature. The wine then undergoes a maturation of 6 months on French and American oak, partly used.

In the glass, the Lauriga Cuvée Bastien Réserve is garnet red with purple hues. In the nose we smell ripe red fruit, jam and notes of licorice and sweet spices. In the mouth, wine is very balanced with soft tannins, red fruit and something smoky in the aftertaste. Delicious with duck breast with cranberry sauce.
