The king of long-aged Cavas and it is no surprise that Parker compares the Cavas of Mestres with López de Heredia & Tondonia" The Cava Mestres Elena de Mestres Gran Reserva Brut Nature is the only Rosé that matures in barriques. Simply incomparable. This GRAN RESERVA PREMIUM BRUT NATURE ROSE is a blend of Trepat (45%) Grenache (30%) Monastrell (25%) The base wine is fermented and aged for 4 months in chestnut barriques isur lie i.e. with its lees. The second fermentation in bottle is completed in contact with the first 100% natural cork, in horizontal position and aging for at least 36 months in the traditional bottle on its own yeasts in CAVA MESTRES After the disgorgement (the manual process of removing dead yeast cells) the 2nd cork is placed and this fantastic dry rosé Cava is still bottle-aged.

The 2017 vintage was great in terms of quality, but the frost late in the season resulted in a very low yield. Only 1932 bottles were made of this Elena

In the glass, the Rosé cava has a bright pink salmon color with very fine and elegant bubbles (perlage). In the nose intense and delicate aromas of red fruit (strawberry) with a floral touch and a slightly spicy background. In the mouth it is an elegant and creamy cava, with the carbonation very well integrated and a very elegant and long finish. The advice of CAVAS MESTRES is not to drink the wine too cold. The recommended temperature is between 8-15 degrees, with a slightly higher temperature the flavors come into their own much better. The wine has less than 3 grams of residual sugar and is therefore an absolute Brut Nature. A term and invention that Mestres has the patent on.

FACT: MESTRES has always printed the date of disgorgement on the label and only 1,932 bottles of the unique Elena Gran Reserva were made and all these unique bottles are numbered.

ABOUT MESTRES

The MESTRES family has been documented in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia since 1312 as owners of vineyards and also as traders of grains and wines. The family has been associated with the wine world for 29 generations. At the time, the date of 1312 was taken as the year of the creation of the MESTRES vineyards.

During the Christmas of 1928, the first bottle of Cava MESTRES was released, which Josep Mestres Manobens produced with grapes from the 1925 vintage. From this date, the family specialized in the production of sparkling wines with a very long maturation made according to the champagne way, namely the traditional method. From that moment on they only focused on high quality and MESTRES grew into a reference and benchmark for top cavas. Josep Mestres Manobens is the one who started with a high-quality base wine to make a Cava by means of a 'champagne' (method 'champenoise') without adding a sugar liquid (this is used for the extra fermentation by most houses), which he called "Visol" ((WINE ON IT'S OWN). At Mestres they only work with wine and no additives. This is how the first Brut Nature was born and is registered in the Patent and Trademark office since 1948. Mestres are thus the Parents of Brut Nature Today, the 29th generation of the MESTRES family follows the path of their predecessors and maintains that restless and enterprising spirit that characterized the MESTRES family, a winery with seven centuries of history.

During all these years we have been able to follow tradition and respect a philosophy of unique elaboration, bringing the name MESTRES and the word CAVA to excellence. Mestres is the living history of Cava. Today, MESTRES cavas all have very high ratings.

For the Mestres Reserva, 2 natural corks are used to produce the Cava. this makes the Merstres, among other things, unique. You only see this (more expensive) process with the very exclusive champagne brands (normally, a crown stool is used first and only the natural cork is used for disgorgement). Since Mestres uses very long aging, the porosity of the cork ensures a refinement of the wine.

One hundred percent of the sparkling wines from Mestres are aged in the bottle under a cork. Mestres is a very traditional Cava producer and is compared in style to the "López de Heredia & Tondonia" among the Cavas.
