2017 Bodegas Vetus Vetus
This Vetus from Bodegas Vetus comes from the best vineyards of the Bodega located in the DO Toro. The vineyards are around 20ha and are located at an altitude of 700 meters. The climate is continental with influence from the sea. Vetus comes from the Latin word veto - vetare, which means 'forbidden, not allowed'.
Vetus is located in the heart of the rapidly emerging Toro wine region. It is an example of the potential of this region and the modern wines that are made there. Lots of fruit and concentration. The Artevino Group (Vina Izadi, Villacreces, Orben) collaborates with Bodegas Vetus in Toro to make wines based on the grape Tinta de Toro (the local Tempranillo). The favorite Pruno wine is the brother (or sister) of the Vetus.
The Vetus is made from 100% Tinta de Fino (Tempranillo clone) grapes picked manually in October. The wine is aged for 12 months in new French oak barrels. The wine has a beautiful dark cherry color and delicious aromas of ripe black fruit on the nose. Pleasant in the mouth with notes of red fruit and coffee. A very pleasant finish with compote and liquorice in the aftertaste. The oak is well integrated with the fruit. Approximately 17,000 bottles of this Vetus have been produced. This is a wine with a very attractive price level for Toro standards. Recommended!
