The Sierra Cantabria Crianza is a delicious full Rioja in balance. Absolutely recommended. This wine is made from the Tempranillo. De Crianza was educated for 14 months on French and American oak. Its color is ruby red with light violet in the edges of the glass. In the nose a bouquet of red fruit (berries, black currants) with a nice intensity, hints of roasted coffee graphite and vanilla. Its taste has a good structure, good balance between tannins, alcohol and acids. Fresh mature fruit is in perfect balance with the characteristics of the elderly (spices, roasted coffee, noble wood). The aftertaste leaves a fine slightly toasted memory with an accurate mouthfeel and a hairy finish. This version is a 0.5 liter bottle
The vineyards are located in the famous part of the Rioja, namely in San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida. The bottom of the vineyard consists mainly of calcareous clay with gravel and the vineyard is managed sustainably. The hand-harvested bunches are selected in the vineyard with a 2nd selection in the winery by means of a sorting table. The harvest took place between October 9-16, 2016.
This 100% Tempranillo clone is destemmed with fermentation at a temperature between 26oC and 28oC with native yeast selected from its own vineyards. For this beautiful crianza, a long maceration takes place with skin for 15 days, starting with two daily pump-overs and then a light pump-over for the last ten days. After this, the wine matures for 14 months in Bordeaux barrels of French and American oak.
Volume 2016 can be characterized by mild temperatures during early winter with little rain. In the middle of January a cold and very rainy period started. The month of April started with low temperatures, which slowed flowering, which started in late April / early May.
The rains in the month of May were scarcer than usual and amounted to 30 to 50 liters depending on the area. Temperatures remained mild, allowing the plants to develop very slowly but steadily. June was dry, with temperatures typical of the period, leading to good vegetative development. September started dry and warm, with above average temperatures, and sometimes climbed up to 36 ° C. The vegetative cycle slowed due to lack of rain, but mid-month temperatures dropped and there were three days of rain (16, 17 and 18) which was almost there is no better time, especially in the last period, the final quality of the fruit is determined. The month of October started dry, sunny and with temperatures typical of the period. There was no rain. The earliest vineyards (October 5-7, when the red grape harvest begins) showed perfect ripeness and spectacular health, more developed than ever in recent memory.

The Spanish winery Sierra Cantabria was founded in 1957 by Guillermo Eguren and is one of Hermanos Eguren's beautiful wineries. Sierra Cantabria is located in the Rioja in a unique location between the River Ebro and the Sierra Cantabria mountain range. The Sierra Cantabria Mountains (1200m.) And the River Ebro (350m.) Provide a special microclimate with Mediterranean and continental features - mild winters and mild summers, unique to wine growing.
On the other hand, the thermal summer jump (intense heat during the day with fresh night temperatures) increases the polyphenol content, which makes for excellent quality wines with a distinctive character.
The vineyards of Bodega Sierra Cantabria are mainly located in the towns of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Labastida and Laguardia, an area very well known for wine growing.
The Tempranillo variety predominates, along with small amounts of Garnacha, Viura and 'Hairy Tempranillo', all of which are grown in vineyards about 35 years old, although there are also plots up to 70 years old.The harvest is carried out by hand every year, paying special attention to the rigorous selection of the grapes that are the soul of the wine, in optimal condition and in perfect ripening conditions. The careful harvest is followed by a thorough separation of the bunches, which is done on a selection table at the entrance of the winery. Winemaking is aimed at minimal intervention in the winery to fully respect the character of the terroir
